Panipat, May 28: In a significant step towards promoting green public transport in Haryana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated an electric bus depot in Panipat on Thursday. He flagged off 80 new electric buses, marking the beginning of a cleaner and more modern era of transportation in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative is a historic moment for Panipat, a city known for its rich heritage, as it ushers in environmentally friendly transport solutions. Out of the 80 electric buses launched, 40 have been allocated to Panipat, while 15 are designated for Yamunanagar, 10 each for Kurukshetra and Sonipat, and 5 for Panchkula. These buses symbolize a new beginning for a clean, safe, and modern future in Haryana.
The state-of-the-art electric bus depot in Panipat has been developed at a cost of approximately ₹7 crore. Additionally, electric bus depots are being established in eight other districts, equipped with modern charging facilities for the buses.
CM Saini stated that strengthening public transport is a top priority for the government. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a Green India, net-zero emissions, and sustainable development, asserting that the Haryana government is committed to implementing this vision on the ground.
He remarked, “The entire world is moving towards environmental conservation and green energy. Prime Minister Modi has called for a reduction in the consumption of petrol and diesel while promoting electric mobility.”
The Chief Minister noted that electric bus services will reduce dependence on fossil fuels, decrease pollution, and provide citizens with safe, comfortable, and modern travel options.
Haryana City Bus Service Limited is continuously working to make urban life more convenient and eco-friendly. Recently, a review of the transportation roadmap for the next five years was conducted under the ‘Haryana Vision-2047’ initiative. Instructions have been issued to increase the number of local buses in rapidly growing urban areas.
Furthermore, the government is working on implementing a tracking system for buses, similar to that of Indian Railways, allowing passengers to easily track bus locations and arrival times via a mobile app.
In addition, plans are underway to establish 10 new electric bus stands within the next year, along with the acquisition of more electric buses in the future.
