Harmanpreet Kaur: Confidence from ODI World Cup Boosts Indias T20 World Cup Aspirations

Chennai, May 28: The current champions of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, India, have set their sights on a new goal. The Indian team is now focused on winning their first Women’s T20 World Cup title, which will commence in England and Wales on June 12.

Following their victory at home last year, where they clinched their first T20 World Cup title, Team India will finalize their preparations by playing a three-match T20 series against England. After their recent success in the white-ball series against the host nation, the Indian players are stepping onto the English grounds with renewed confidence.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur finds England a familiar territory. It is here that she made her debut for India in the Women’s T20 World Cup back in 2009. The Indian women’s team is currently brimming with confidence. Harman expressed that a successful conclusion to the upcoming tournament would feel like a dream come true.

In a press conference held in Chelmsford before the match on Wednesday, she stated, “For any cricketer who has debuted in England and then won a World Cup here, it feels like a dream come true. I believe I cannot ask for more for myself or from God. Now, it’s about maintaining a positive mindset and consistently doing the right things, as consistency is what yields good results. It’s all about expressing oneself freely on the field and enjoying every moment.”

Kaur is the only member of the Indian team who has participated in all editions of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Ahead of her tenth tournament, Kaur has already achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Indian captain to lift the Women’s Cricket World Cup trophy.

This remarkable victory serves as inspiration for Kaur and her team as they prepare for what is expected to be one of the toughest editions of the tournament yet.

The captain remarked, “I believe winning the World Cup has given us a lot of confidence, and that confidence will also help us in this T20 World Cup. When you win, you know what you did well to achieve that victory. We understand how to perform under pressure. Therefore, I believe these factors will instill confidence in us during the T20 World Cup.”

India, placed in Group 1 alongside Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands, will kick off their tournament journey on May 28 with a bilateral series against England. Following this, the Indian team will face West Indies and England in warm-up matches on June 8 and June 10, respectively. In their first match of the T20 World Cup, India will take on their arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 14.
