Madhya Pradesh BJP Blames Kamal Nath for OBC Reservation Setback

Bhopal, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has attributed its recent setback in the High Court regarding OBC reservation to the inadequate preparations of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. The party announced that the current government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, will review the court’s decision to protect the interests of the OBC community.

Surendra Sharma, the Vice President of Madhya Pradesh BJP, stated in an interview that all mistakes should be blamed on the Congress party and Kamal Nath. “When Kamal Nath was in power in 2019, he brought this issue without any prior preparation, and now the state and the entire backward class community are suffering the consequences of that lack of readiness,” he said.

Sharma further accused the Congress party of neglecting the concerns of the OBC community. He pointed out that the D.B. Kalelkar Committee was established in 1955, but Congress did not address its recommendations for decades. It was only after the BJP came to power in 2014 under Narendra Modi that the committee’s recommendations were implemented, granting constitutional status to the Backward Classes Commission.

He also mentioned that the Congress failed to implement the recommendations of the Mandal Commission. “The conditions set by the Mandal Commission were only put into effect when the BJP was in a coalition government led by V.P. Singh,” Sharma added. He emphasized that the BJP has been concerned about the rights of the poor, backward classes, and marginalized communities.

Sharma highlighted that the BJP has provided four Chief Ministers from the backward class in Madhya Pradesh, questioning whether Congress has ever appointed a Chief Minister from this community. He noted that in Himachal Pradesh, where Congress is in power, the reservation for OBCs stands at only 18 percent, illustrating a disconnect between the party’s promises and actions.

While acknowledging the High Court’s unfavorable decision, Sharma assured that the government would conduct a review once the official copy of the ruling is received. He reaffirmed that the government led by Mohan Yadav will safeguard the rights of all communities in the state.

Recently, the Jabalpur High Court ruled on the controversy surrounding OBC reservation, stating that the reservation percentage would remain at 14 percent. The court found insufficient justification to raise the reservation from 14 percent to 27 percent, which would require crossing the 50 percent threshold.
