
Mumbai, March 21: Hana Moataz and Abhay Singh have made their mark by securing spots in the finals of the Indian Open after impressive performances in the semifinals. Both players triumphed with a score of 3-1 in their respective matches.
Second-seeded Hana Moataz overcame a slow start to defeat her compatriot, third-seeded Nadine Elhammi, with a score of 3-1 (11-8, 5-11, 11-5, 11-7). The first game was highly competitive, with both players exchanging leads. Ultimately, Moataz clinched the game 11-8.
The second game mirrored the first in intensity, but Nadine found her rhythm midway through, taking a 7-5 lead and winning the game 11-5, leveling the match at 1-1.
However, in the third game, Moataz regained control, dominating to win 11-5. She maintained her momentum in the fourth game, building a significant lead. Despite Nadine’s attempts to rally, Moataz held her composure and secured the game 11-7, sealing her victory.
In the men’s semifinals, Abhay Singh faced a tough challenge from Malaysia’s Amishenraj Chandran, winning 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8).
Unseeded Chandran put up a strong fight throughout the match. The contest featured powerful forehands and impressive angles. Abhay started strong, taking a 9-4 lead in the first game. However, Chandran made a comeback, scoring five consecutive points and threatening an upset. Nevertheless, the Indian player maintained his composure and won the game 11-9.
The second game was tightly contested from start to finish. Trailing 8-9, Chandran found his rhythm at the right moment, scoring three consecutive points to win the game 11-9, leveling the match at 1-1.
In the third game, Abhay bounced back decisively, winning 11-3. The fourth game proved to be another test, as he fell behind 2-6. However, he mounted a strong comeback, leveling the score at 7-7 and ultimately winning the match 11-8 to secure his place in the finals.
