Gurugram Police File FIR in Punjab CM Video Case

Gurugram, June 23: The Gurugram police in Haryana have registered an FIR against two individuals for allegedly creating a fake forensic report to benefit officials of the Punjab government.

The FIR names Ankit and Arun Mahendru as the accused. The complainant, Jaspreet Singh, claims that Punjab government officials paid him 10 lakh rupees to produce a report stating that the person in the video is not Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

According to reports, Ankit is from Jind, while Arun Mahendru hails from Sirsa. Both work as forensic experts on a contractual basis. They allegedly prepared a report indicating that the physical characteristics of the individual in the video do not match those of CM Bhagwant Mann. In return for the fake report, they received 50,000 rupees each.

About six months ago, when the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht summoned CM Bhagwant Mann, it was stated that a video circulating on social media attempted to breach religious decorum. In response, CM Mann clarified that the video could be AI-generated or fake.

Following this, Sri Akal Takht Sahib conducted an investigation. After the inquiry was completed, on June 15, the Jathedar Sahib stated that the video was not AI-generated but original. The government then asserted that the individual in the video attempting to breach religious decorum was not CM Bhagwant Mann.

On June 15, after the forensic report was released, a police commissioner and a police captain from Punjab visited Gurugram to question forensic expert Jaspreet. Based on his statements, the police summoned experts Ankit and Arun Mahendru. The reports were prepared in a five-star hotel and later made public. It was noted that this report differed from that of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, claiming to have investigated the video from over 1,100 angles to conclude that CM Bhagwant Mann was not present.

Reports indicate that Jaspreet received the 10 lakh rupees at that location. He was the one who lodged the complaint with the Gurugram police regarding the entire incident.
