New Delhi, August 29: Fast bowler Gurnoor Barar has been included in the North Zone team for the Duleep Trophy semifinal, starting Sunday at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru against South Zone. Gurnoor was part of the Indian team during the recent Test series against Sri Lanka.
There is a strong possibility that Gurnoor will find a place in the playing eleven for North Zone. The Indian team management aims to provide him with ample opportunities in red-ball cricket ahead of upcoming tours.
Gurnoor has been part of India’s last two Test squads, but he is yet to make his Test debut. In July, he participated in India A’s shadow tour of Sri Lanka, where he took 10 wickets for 145 runs in the second unofficial Test.
Looking at Gurnoor’s first-class career record, he has claimed 62 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 25.24.
The 23-year-old made his One Day International debut against Afghanistan in June and played all three ODIs during India’s recent tour of England. So far, he has taken 11 wickets in 6 ODIs.
Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aaqib Nabi was also selected for the Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka. However, he did not get a chance to debut. Reports suggest that Nabi is considering playing in the English county circuit once his visa paperwork is completed. The selectors also want him to gain experience in favorable conditions for fast bowlers. Nabi may also get an opportunity in the Test series against New Zealand, and the team management is keen to provide him with more chances.
If he does not get a chance in the county, Nabi will participate in the first match against Australia in Puducherry starting September 22, followed by the Irani Cup match against the Rest of India in Srinagar from October 1 to 5. Nabi played a crucial role in Jammu and Kashmir’s historic Ranji Trophy victory in the 2025-26 season, taking 60 wickets.
