London, August 31: England showcased an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan by 194 runs in the second Test match. This victory gives England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
English captain Joe Root praised his team’s performance, stating, “It feels great, and I believe the way we secured this win was quite impressive. The players displayed remarkable cricket under challenging conditions, especially the batsmen. I think they handled the challenges very well, achieving good rhythm on different types of pitches and scoring excellently in the current circumstances.”
Root further commented on the bowling, saying, “We have three fast bowlers in our team who can bowl over 90 miles per hour. Ollie Robinson is also performing exceptionally well in the current conditions. All our bowlers support each other and are continuously improving. The more we play together and spend time on the field, the better we will understand each other. This will benefit me as a captain and them as players. That’s why we have a lot of positive aspects heading into the West Indies tour.”
Praising the batsmen, Root added, “Regardless of the conditions, when the team score is 80 runs for 4 wickets, the mindset of the players and how they played in the second half of the innings to reach that score was outstanding. There were some excellent partnerships. Particularly on Sunday, the way Dan Lawrence and Emilio played was crucial for us, providing significant runs and putting us in a strong position.”
Root concluded, “Chasing such a score on that pitch was always going to be difficult for them, and given how our bowlers are performing and the current conditions, that score was quite sufficient for us. It was great to see these players perform well. Jordan Cox also built on the fantastic start he had at Headingley. There are many positive takeaways moving forward, and clearly, this is a great way to start the series.”
