Odisha T20 League CM Trophy Set to Kick Off on September 20

Cutack, August 31: Exciting news for cricket fans in Odisha! The Odisha T20 League CM Trophy is making a comeback. This tournament will take place from September 20 to 29 at the renowned Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, featuring a total of six teams.

The tournament is named the ‘CM Trophy’ to showcase Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi’s commitment to the development and promotion of cricket and sports in Odisha. It will serve as a significant platform for the state’s emerging cricketers to display their talent.

The participating teams include Cuttack Panthers, Bhubaneswar Tigers, Rourkela Steelers, Keonjhar Miners, Puri Titans, and Sambalpur Warriors. Before the tournament kicks off, a player draft will be held on September 6.

This league offers young cricketers the chance to play competitive T20 cricket under floodlights at one of Odisha’s most famous stadiums. With the support of experienced players, coaches, and franchises, this tournament aims to provide young athletes with essential match experience to advance their careers.

The trophy was unveiled in the presence of officials from the Odisha Cricket Association, marking the official launch of the tournament’s second edition. The event was attended by Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, President of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), along with other key officials.

In the previous edition, Cuttack Panthers emerged as champions, and now the six teams will compete fiercely for the trophy in the new season. Speaking about the tournament, Pankaj Lochan Mohanty stated, “The Odisha T20 League CM Trophy is a crucial step towards strengthening the cricketing environment in the state. Our focus is not only on hosting a competitive tournament but also on creating a platform where young players can perform well, learn, and progress.”

He added, “We want to ensure that talented cricketers from Odisha receive the opportunities they need to advance their careers.” This league will emphasize enhancing the visibility of Odisha’s players. Hosting matches at Barabati Stadium and reaching a broader audience will provide young athletes with better chances to attract scouts and teams from outside Odisha.

It is expected that this league will give Odisha’s players the opportunity to play in front of large crowds, potentially catching the attention of IPL franchises. Mohanty remarked, “This league offers a unique chance for Odisha’s players to showcase their skills at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium. Over the course of 17 matches in 10 days, they will have the opportunity to play on a significant stage.”

The league’s extensive reach could pave the way for promising players to advance to major domestic and franchise tournaments. “We have seen many players transition from domestic T20 cricket to the IPL and then to the national team through other leagues. We hope that at least some players from the 2026 season will reach the IPL auction next season. If that happens, it will be a significant achievement for this league and Odisha cricket,” he concluded.

The 17-match tournament will take place from September 20 to 29 at Barabati Stadium, culminating in an exhibition match for women on the final day. With six franchises, 17 intense matches, and eager young cricketers ready to shine, the ‘Odisha T20 League CM Trophy’ aims to be more than just a domestic T20 event. It is a platform for Odisha’s emerging players to dream big, perform under pressure, and embark on their journey towards significant opportunities in cricket.
