Ahmedabad, March 22: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated 24 development projects worth over ₹707 crore in Amreli district on Sunday. This initiative emphasizes the state government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and promoting rural development.
Among the projects, 14 worth ₹681.78 crore were inaugurated, while the foundation stone for 10 projects costing ₹25.23 crore was laid. Addressing a gathering at the Amreli APMC, Patel assured that the state government would provide substantial financial support for the district’s development. He stressed the importance of systematic planning and high-quality implementation of these projects.
“We will ensure adequate financial assistance for the district’s development. It is crucial that projects are planned systematically and executed with quality,” he stated.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the ‘Virat’ agricultural shed, built at a cost of ₹12 crore over an area of more than 2 lakh square feet, aimed at safeguarding farmers’ produce.
Highlighting the district’s development journey, Patel noted that industrial growth in Amreli is gaining momentum once again. He mentioned that during the recent Vibrant Summit in Saurashtra, agreements worth approximately ₹36,000 crore were signed, and a new industrial area was approved under the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).
He emphasized that coordinated efforts from elected representatives have made it possible to launch multiple projects simultaneously, asserting that development should reach even the most remote areas.
“We must ensure that people in the farthest regions are brought into the mainstream of development. Additionally, expanding urban-level facilities in rural areas is essential for balanced regional development,” he added.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Patel remarked that Gujarat has emerged as a leader in financial management. “No development work in Gujarat is halted due to a lack of funds,” he asserted.
He further mentioned that proactive measures are being planned to prevent water scarcity, including the “Catch the Rain” campaign and an annual grant of ₹50 lakh for rainwater harvesting initiatives for legislators.
State Energy and Law Minister Kaushik Vekaria stated that the government has provided robust financial support for Amreli’s development. He announced that the allocation for the Amreli Riverfront project has been increased from ₹50 crore to ₹70 crore.
State BJP President and MLA Jagdish Vishwakarma noted that the development journey initiated under Prime Minister Modi continues without interruption. He highlighted that long-standing issues of water scarcity and irrigation in Saurashtra are being addressed through major initiatives, including the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (Sauni) scheme.
“Through the Sauni scheme, Narmada water has reached homes in Saurashtra via canals and pipelines, providing significant relief to families, especially women,” he stated. He also mentioned that over one lakh check dams have been constructed in the region.
Vishwakarma referenced the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana, which has provided gas connections to over 10 million women across the country, improving their health and quality of life.
Key projects highlighted include the Radheshyam Machiyala bypass at a cost of ₹272 crore, 11 road and building construction projects costing approximately ₹662 crore, a railway overbridge on Lathi Road costing ₹95 crore, a natural farming college at ₹35 crore, a science center at ₹25 crore, a sports complex at ₹16 crore, and ₹15 crore allocated for a library.
The water supply project in Varsada, costing ₹35 crore, has already been inaugurated. During the event, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries distributed e-tricycles to beneficiaries with disabilities.
Financial assistance was provided to primary agricultural credit societies, while checks were distributed to women beneficiaries under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Symbolic keys to homes were handed over to beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. Winners of the 69th National School Games Under-19 Handball competition were also honored.
