Gujarat to Launch ‘Namo Swadeshi Urban Malls’ in Four Major Cities

Gandhinagar, March 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated campaigns like ‘Make in India’, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, and ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi’ to encourage every citizen to adopt indigenous products and contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Under this initiative, the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched various programs to provide a platform for local artisans and small entrepreneurs in urban areas. Following the successful organization of indigenous fairs in Gujarat, ‘Namo Swadeshi Urban Malls’ will now be established in four municipalities: Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.

The Gujarat Urban Livelihood Mission, under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, is implementing the ‘Namo Swadeshi Urban Mall’ scheme to promote indigenous products. The aim is to create a sustainable and modern market system in municipalities to encourage citizens to purchase local products.

Notably, during the urban development year 2025-26, indigenous fairs were organized in 16 municipalities of the state under the plastic-free ‘Swadeshi Festival’. These events provided local artisans, self-help group women, street vendors, and small traders with opportunities to showcase and sell their products. Now, permanent ‘Namo Swadeshi Urban Malls’ will be established in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot to provide a broad and sustainable market for indigenous products. These malls will offer a structured and modern platform for local artisans, women self-help groups, street vendors, and small entrepreneurs to sell their goods.

Through these malls, direct contact will be established between buyers and sellers, allowing customers to easily access a variety of indigenous products in one location, while producers will find a market for their goods. Additionally, these malls will also serve as venues for indigenous fairs, haats, and various exhibitions, further boosting the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

In the 2026-27 budget, the state government has allocated ₹45 crores for the establishment of ‘Namo Swadeshi Urban Malls’ and the organization of indigenous fairs. This initiative will empower local artisans and small entrepreneurs, marking a significant step towards realizing the dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
