Valsad, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The police in Valsad, Gujarat, achieved a significant victory against illegal drug trafficking by destroying narcotics valued at ₹32.39 crore. The operation took place on October 5, 2026, at a facility in Bharuch district, where the drugs were disposed of using scientific and environmentally friendly methods.
The destruction of the seized drugs was conducted under the supervision of a Special Disposal Committee, in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. The drugs were incinerated at the BEIL facility in Bharuch to prevent long-term storage and potential misuse.
Authorities indicated that more than 14 additional cases involving seized narcotics will be destroyed in the coming days, also under the committee’s oversight. Since January 1 of this year, Valsad police have uncovered 50 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 95 suspects and the confiscation of narcotics worth over ₹1.71 crore, totaling 218.838 kilograms in weight.
Among the seized items were approximately 213.686 kilograms of cannabis valued at ₹1.06 crore, 1.787 kilograms of hybrid cannabis worth ₹62.55 lakh, 10.65 grams of heroin valued at ₹1.91 lakh, and 3.355 kilograms of poppy husk worth ₹50,325. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) managed two cases, resulting in seven arrests and the confiscation of 13.257 kilograms of cannabis worth ₹6,62,850.
The district police are monitoring the activities of individuals arrested under the NDPS Act after their release from jail. Officers routinely visit their homes and workplaces to ensure compliance. In one case, action was initiated under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act against a habitual offender, who was subsequently transferred to Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad.
As part of preventive measures, Valsad police have conducted over 25 drug awareness programs this year in schools, colleges, and public areas. These initiatives have reached 4,151 individuals, focusing on the physical, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse.
The police encourage citizens to report any illegal drug-related activities to the nearest police station, assuring that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
