Gandhinagar, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Gujarat police have launched a statewide initiative targeting vehicles with improper number plates, resulting in the filing of 18,014 cases and the seizure of 4,187 vehicles. This campaign, which began on September 1 under the supervision of Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik, aims to enforce compliance with number plate regulations and enhance road safety across the state.
From September 1 to 20, police teams conducted checks in various districts and cities, leading to the registration of 18,014 violations. A total of 4,187 vehicles were confiscated for offenses related to tampering with number plates. Additionally, fines amounting to approximately ₹5.856 million were collected for traffic rule violations during this period.
Notably, major cities saw significant violations, with 1,959 cases reported in Vadodara, 1,786 in Surat, and 1,363 in Banaskantha. Following directives from state police leadership, traffic police teams are actively identifying vehicles with missing, obscured, altered, or non-compliant number plates to ensure adherence to traffic regulations.
SP V. Sahitya of the state traffic branch urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their number plates are clearly visible and comply with established guidelines. Fancy fonts, hidden numbers, or stylish designs may lead to penalties.
The police confirmed that this crackdown will continue until October 14, with ongoing checks to ensure compliance with traffic rules and road safety standards. Vehicle owners are advised to maintain clear and properly formatted number plates.
