Gujarat Local Body Elections: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi Cast Their Votes

Ahmedabad, April 26: Voting is underway for the local body elections in Gujarat, with 9,263 out of 10,005 seats being contested. Amid tight security, voters can cast their ballots at 48,450 polling stations until 6 PM. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel voted in Shela, Ahmedabad, while Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi cast his vote in Surat.

After voting, Sanghvi urged young and first-time voters to actively participate in the democratic process. Addressing young citizens, he said, “My young friends, I wish you all the best. Many of you are voting for the first time in local body elections. I hope this will further improve your quality of life.”

He described the elections as part of a broader developmental mandate, stating, “Today, I, my family, my city, and my state stand united under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen development-oriented politics. This is the time for all citizens of Gujarat to come together and write a new chapter in history. I have also cast my vote today specifically to accelerate the pace of development.”

Voting is ongoing for 190 municipal seats in Ahmedabad, with over 3.8 million voters participating. In Kheda district, more than 600 saints from the Vadatal Swaminarayan Temple participated in the voting alongside temple staff and representatives.

A local resident from Ahmedabad commented, “This is the most fundamental aspect of democracy. People come and go, but local services operate at this level. Everyone should be aware of this.”

In Jamnagar, BJP city president Binaben Kothari urged citizens to exercise their voting rights after casting her vote.

Barodali MP Prabhu Vasava, after voting, appealed to all voters in Gujarat, saying, “On this festive occasion of democracy, during these local self-government elections, I urge all brothers and sisters in Gujarat to aim for 100% voter turnout today. As responsible citizens of India, it is our moral duty to vote and fulfill our responsibilities.”
