
New Delhi, August 19: A delegation from Gujarat, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, visited Micron and Google on the third day of their trip to the US in connection with the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2027. During the visit, CM Patel held a one-on-one meeting with Arvind Srinivasan, CEO of Perplexity AI, and also met with members of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE) from Silicon Valley.
Sanjay Mehrotra, Chairman of Micron, expressed gratitude for the swift approval of 20 acres of land for Micron’s Sanand facility, granted by CM Patel. He praised the state government’s proactive approach to ensure the successful commercial production of the Micron unit begins promptly.
CM Patel recalled the inauguration of the Micron semiconductor facility in Sanand by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2026. He noted that under the Prime Minister’s visionary leadership, Sanand and Dholera are emerging as key hubs for semiconductor facilities in Gujarat.
The Gujarat delegation also gained insights into Google’s operations during their visit. Google Vice President Chandu Thota expressed eagerness to collaborate with Gujarat in areas such as AI training for youth, teachers, and students, as well as the application of AI in agriculture concerning crop patterns, climate, and soil.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding the use of Google Workspace Sovereign AI for data security, involving CM Patel and senior officials from the Gujarat delegation.
In the one-on-one meeting with Arvind Srinivasan, possibilities for establishing Perplexity’s presence in engineering and research and development in Gujarat were explored. Srinivasan also showed interest in setting up a data center in Gujarat or a hybrid setup between developers and Perplexity.
A meeting was also organized between CM Patel and members of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), founded in 1992 by successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals of Sindhi origin in Silicon Valley. TIE members expressed interest in advancing training for healthcare workers in Gujarat and youth skilling through various AI tools.
The meetings included participation from Chief Secretary M.K. Das and senior secretaries of the state government, along with members of the delegation.
