Gujarat BJP Core Committee Meets After UCC Bill Passage

Gandhinagar, March 25: The core committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat convened on Wednesday at Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s official residence.

Senior leaders and ministers attended the meeting, including Rishikesh Patel, Jitu Vaghani, and state president Jagdish Vishwakarma.

This closed-door meeting took place just a day after the state assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill 2026. With this, Gujarat became the second state in India to enact such legislation, following Uttarakhand. The bill aims to implement uniform civil laws for all religions in personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and property.

The assembly debated the bill for over seven hours before passing it with a majority vote.

According to sources, the core committee meeting reviewed organizational strategies and administrative coordination following this significant legislative decision. Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming local body elections scheduled for later this year.

These elections will take place in several urban bodies, including municipalities in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.

No official statement has been released following the meeting.

BJP leaders have emphasized the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections and efforts to communicate government initiatives to the public in recent weeks.

The passage of the UCC Bill has intensified political activity at both state and national levels. Supporters view it as a significant step toward legal equality, while opponents express concerns about its social and cultural implications.

The local body elections in Gujarat are seen as the first major test for political parties this year and are also considered a precursor to the assembly elections scheduled for 2027.
