Surat Railway Station to Transform into a Multi-Modal Transport Hub with ₹1,500 Crore Mega Project

Surat, March 26: The Surat Railway Station is set to undergo a significant transformation into a Multi-Modal Transportation Hub (MMTH). This initiative aims to integrate all major transportation modes in the city, including rail, bus, and metro, providing passengers with a seamless, fast, and convenient travel experience.

The first phase of this ₹1,500 crore project is currently under rapid construction, with a target completion date set for December 2027. This project is part of a larger transformation within Indian Railways, which includes the introduction of Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat scheme, the Kavach safety system, and station redevelopment efforts.

Similar MMTH projects are also underway in Ahmedabad. Vinit Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, stated that the Surat station will be developed as a Multi-Modal Transportation Hub, integrating bus, metro, and railway services. This integration will ensure that passengers have access to all facilities in one location, making their journeys completely hassle-free.

Abhishek mentioned that the total cost of the project is approximately ₹1,500 crore, with around ₹980 crore allocated for the first phase, of which nearly 50% of the work has already been completed. The goal is to have the first phase fully operational by December 2027.

He further explained that an elevated road will connect all platforms, facilitating easier access for passengers and reducing traffic congestion. The station is being designed with the needs of the next 50 years in mind, ensuring it can accommodate the increasing number of travelers.

This project is not only crucial for Surat but also for the entire railway network, as it will enable more trains to operate, enhance punctuality, and provide passengers with a safer, more convenient, and improved travel experience.
