India Celebrates IOC Recognition of Vision for Olympic and Paralympic Games, Says P.T. Usha

New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : India is taking significant steps towards hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, following a warm reception from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) regarding the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) announcement about the selection process for future host cities and countries.

The bid, centered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is being developed in consultation with the IOC, under the theme “Rise Together.” The IOA expressed that this vision aims to align India’s sporting aspirations with the global reach of the Olympic movement. The proposed Games are not just seen as a major sporting event but as a catalyst for transformative changes in sports within the country.

Hosting the Games is expected to boost participation, particularly among youth, and contribute to healthier, more active communities. The IOA believes that the Olympics and Paralympics will play a crucial role in generating educational and professional opportunities. Furthermore, it views this as a chance to connect with one of the world’s youngest and most digitally connected populations.

The IOA stated that the event could attract new athletes, audiences, and partners into the Olympic family, potentially reaching over a billion people. The vision ultimately aims to create a shared opportunity between India and the Olympic movement, celebrating the country’s cultural diversity and transformational potential through sports.

P.T. Usha, President of the IOA, expressed pride in the IOC’s acknowledgment of India’s hopes. She emphasized that the “Rise Together” theme reflects a strong commitment to uniting athletes, citizens, and cities.

“We are honored by the recognition from the IOC regarding our vision and aspirations for the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Usha remarked. “Being part of a select group of potential hosts is a source of pride for us. For us, ‘Rise Together’ is not just a slogan; it embodies a strong commitment to unite India’s energy, goals, and diversity behind a shared Olympic dream.”

As India develops its vision for 2036, Usha aims to create Games that showcase the confidence of a young, dynamic, and emerging India while contributing to the Olympic and Paralympic movement’s ambitions of reaching new generations and communities worldwide. She expressed eagerness to continue dialogue with the IOC and present their goals to the Future Host Commission at the end of October.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Youth Affairs, and Sports, stated that India’s 2036 objective is linked to using sports as a vehicle for significant social development. He believes that hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games will inspire millions of young Indians to participate in sports, leading to healthier, more active communities and new opportunities for education, employment, and social development.

“By bringing the Games to India, we can accelerate the changes in sports that reach every part of our society,” Mandaviya noted. “This can initiate a strong new chapter for the Olympic movement in one of the world’s most dynamic countries.”

The next crucial milestone for India’s bid will be at the end of this month when the country presents its goals to the IOC’s Future Host Commission for the first time.
