New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : As world leaders gather for the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, foreign policy experts are optimistic about the potential benefits of increased collaboration among member countries. They assert that this growing cooperation will enable India to lessen its dependence on Western nations.
Experts believe that the expansion of economic, trade, and strategic partnerships among BRICS nations will create new opportunities for India. This development is expected to strengthen India’s global position while simultaneously reducing its reliance on Western powers.
In a conversation, journalist and foreign affairs expert Wael Awad noted that large agreements in trade, defense, energy, and technology between India, Russia, and China might not directly impact relations with the U.S. and other Western countries. However, he cautioned that the situation remains sensitive.
Awad stated, “Such collaboration among these three major powers will make India less dependent on Western nations, particularly the U.S. This is a scenario that the U.S. and its allies may find uncomfortable.”
According to Awad, the increasing economic and strategic ties among BRICS nations could influence the global balance of power, allowing India to adopt a more independent and multipolar foreign policy.
He added, “Russia is providing technology to India, but we have yet to see any technology transfer from the U.S. to India. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on the ‘Make in India’ initiative, if the U.S. or the West is unwilling to share their technological expertise, I believe this collaboration will create a robust platform for the three nations (Russia, India, and China). I think if the leaders are sincere about moving forward, differences, especially between India and China, will significantly diminish.”
Awad emphasized that the BRICS summit will help discover and promote new markets for Indian products while reducing reliance on the West. He anticipates that the joint statement released after the summit will reflect India’s diplomatic prowess.
Former diplomat Mahesh Sachdev noted that the BRICS summit presents a unique opportunity for major world powers to discuss ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, which have caused significant global disruption, with many efforts to address these issues proving unsuccessful.
India’s presence in BRICS is particularly noteworthy, as Western nations harbor skepticism towards the group, perceiving it as dominated by China and Russia.
