New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrated their enduring friendship once again on September 11, 2026, in New Delhi. After concluding bilateral talks at the Bharat Mandapam, the two leaders traveled together in the same car to attend the Innoprom exhibition. This event is organized by the ministries of industry and trade from both nations.
Their camaraderie was similarly displayed on August 31 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, during a bilateral meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where they also shared a vehicle to the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.
Last year, the two leaders made headlines when they arrived together in the same car for a bilateral meeting at the SCO summit in Tianjin, China. Analysts have dubbed this practice as Modi’s ‘car diplomacy,’ which has sparked considerable discussion on social media.
During their recent meeting, PM Modi presented President Putin with a Russian translation of the “Tirukkural,” a classic Tamil text by the revered Indian poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. This work consists of 1,330 couplets, known as Kurals, and is regarded as one of the greatest literary masterpieces in the world.
Each couplet is composed of seven words, offering teachings on virtue, wealth, and love. The book is celebrated for its universal and secular nature. The Russian translation was completed by Naira Makartchyan.
The Tirukkural has inspired many foreign scholars, including the renowned Russian author Leo Tolstoy. PM Modi highlighted this gift on X, stating, “Presented President Putin with the Russian translation of the Tirukkural, which carries the eternal wisdom of the great Thiruvalluvar across languages and borders.”
The meeting was attended by key Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
