Shivraj Singh Chouhan Criticizes Congress for Disrespecting Democratic Mandate

New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Central Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, asserting that their recent comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, made under the direction of Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, amount to a grave disrespect for constitutional institutions and the public mandate.

Chouhan described Kharge’s statements as indicative of the Congress’s despair and its longstanding pattern of assaulting constitutional bodies. He noted that whenever the electorate rejects Congress in elections, the party resorts to undermining democracy, the Election Commission, and the integrity of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

He emphasized that the Prime Minister, elected with a historic mandate and overwhelming support from the public, deserves respect. Chouhan questioned if Congress believes democracy is only valid when the Gandhi family or Congress is in power. He pointed out that in a diverse democracy like India, a government serving a full five-year term is a significant achievement. The repeated election of the Prime Minister with a substantial majority underscores the public’s trust.

Chouhan further accused Kharge of misleading the public regarding the appointment process of election commissioners. He stated that the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners were appointed through a fully democratic, constitutional, and transparent process as per the Election Commission Act of 2023, which includes opposition representation in the selection committee.

He reminded Congress of its own history, where for decades, appointments of election commissioners were made arbitrarily without any legal framework or transparent committee, often rewarding individuals with ministerial posts or parliamentary seats. Now, with a legal and transparent system in place, Congress is making baseless allegations.

Updating voter lists, removing duplicate names, and adding eligible citizens are ongoing legal processes managed by the Election Commission. Chouhan criticized Congress for creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion under the guise of protecting “the poor” and “Muslim minorities,” claiming that the BJP advocates for only fair and legitimate voting.

He noted that Congress raises no objections to EVMs when it wins in states like Karnataka, Telangana, or Himachal Pradesh, but quickly blames EVMs for its defeats, especially when the public rejects its corruption and divisive politics. The Supreme Court has consistently affirmed the reliability and fairness of EVMs, yet Congress seems intent on dragging the country back to the era of booth capturing and ballot box tampering.

Chouhan concluded by stating that Congress has become devoid of substantive issues. Its agenda now revolves around attacking constitutional institutions, fostering chaos on the streets, and tarnishing the nation’s democratic image on global platforms. When electoral outcomes favor Congress, it trusts the democratic process, but when results are unfavorable, it questions the integrity of EVMs and constitutional bodies. The BJP remains steadfast that the nation’s democracy is built on the foundation laid by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution, and the public will continue to respond to false and unfounded claims through democratic means.
