New Delhi, June 21: Tea is one of the most popular beverages worldwide. For many, the day doesn’t start without a sip of tea. Beyond its flavor and freshness, tea is also considered beneficial for health. There is ongoing debate about which is healthier: green tea or black tea. Both types are said to have their own advantages, from controlling blood sugar to promoting heart health and aiding in weight management.

According to scientists, both green tea and black tea contain natural compounds known as polyphenols. These elements help combat harmful free radicals in the body. Free radicals can damage cells and increase the risk of various diseases over time.

Green tea is particularly rich in a specific category of polyphenols called catechins, which can help reduce inflammation and improve glucose utilization in the body.

In terms of blood sugar control, green tea is often considered more effective. Numerous studies have shown that the catechins and other antioxidants in green tea enhance the body’s insulin sensitivity. Insulin is the hormone responsible for transporting sugar from the bloodstream into the cells. When the body cannot utilize insulin effectively, blood sugar levels can rise.
