New Delhi, July 30: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has summoned senior officials from Meta to provide a detailed explanation regarding the temporary suspension of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook post. This meeting is expected to take place within the next seven to ten days.
Secretary S. Krishnan stated that the government aims to fully understand the situation by seeking clarifications from Meta on both policy and technical levels.
He remarked, “India wants to convey its concerns directly to Meta and seeks comprehensive information about the circumstances that led to this temporary suspension.”
Krishnan noted that Meta has already expressed regret over the incident and provided an initial explanation to the government. However, the central government has requested a more detailed account, including measures the company is implementing to prevent such occurrences in the future.
This new action follows a day after the government summoned a senior Meta official, prompted by the temporary suspension of the Prime Minister’s Facebook post.
The post addressed the youth of India and reiterated the government’s commitment to taking strict action against paper leaks.
While Meta attributed the incident to a technical glitch and apologized, the government maintains that the explanation provided thus far is insufficient and requires further investigation.
In a video posted on July 23, PM Modi assured students that his government is taking stringent measures regarding the NEET exam paper leak issue.
According to Krishnan, Meta has informed the government that it has implemented a new protocol effective July 28 to prevent such incidents in the future.
This updated process includes enhanced monitoring of content published by the Prime Minister and other high-profile accounts. The company’s goal is to strengthen safeguards against inadvertent suspensions.
