Government Committed to Resolving Pending Payments for RTC Employees: CM Revant Reddy

Hyderabad, May 1: Chief Minister A. Revant Reddy announced that the government is taking significant steps to strengthen the TSRTC financially and ensure smooth operations across the organization. The state government is dedicated to addressing the demands of RTC employees and protecting their rights.

During a meeting with representatives from RTC unions, the Chief Minister responded positively to their requests. He declared that salaries for the three-day strike period would be released and that cases filed against employees during the strike would be withdrawn. The Chief Minister instructed the Transport Minister and other officials to take immediate action regarding the payment of salaries and the withdrawal of cases.

On Friday, RTC trade union leaders met with Chief Minister Revant Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills. The union leaders expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s initiative to address their issues. Revant Reddy commended the unions for presenting a work plan aimed at promoting organizational development, ensuring its sustainability, maintaining its dignity, and providing excellent services to the public. He further noted that RTC employees had supported the Congress in forming the government, and the Congress stood by them during their struggles.

The Chief Minister stated that the number of buses has been increased to boost RTC revenue, and new employees have been recruited. Additionally, the government has decided to construct an international-standard bus terminal on 150 acres of land in Shamshabad and has already allocated 100 acres for a bus terminal in Gajularamaram.

Considering the rising financial burden of diesel buses, the Chief Minister mentioned that RTC is purchasing 1,000 electric buses (EVs) to establish seamless connectivity with the metro rail network and to include mini buses in its fleet. RTC currently spends ₹2,000 crores annually on diesel. To alleviate financial challenges, a shift towards purchasing electric buses is essential, along with a comprehensive and solid plan to increase revenue.

Revant Reddy informed the RTC unions that the pending dues were not accumulated during the Congress government’s tenure. Nevertheless, the government is making every effort to repay the growing debts. He also stated that work on pending compassionate appointments has begun, and decisions regarding financial matters, including the PRC (Pay Revision Commission), will be made soon. Unions should discuss among themselves and present viable options to the government for permanent solutions.
