Goas Chief Minister Promod Sawant Discusses Digital Transformation in Healthcare

Panaji, July 2: Goa’s Chief Minister Dr. Promod Sawant held a significant meeting with Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, and his delegation to discuss digital reforms and technological upgrades in the state’s healthcare system. Senior officials from the state health department also attended the meeting.

According to reports, the Goa government is rapidly advancing towards becoming India’s first fully digitized healthcare state. Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, healthcare services are being integrated to ensure that beneficiaries of the Deen Dayal Health Scheme can access health facilities across the country without any barriers.

The government has described this initiative as a crucial step, stating that it will help make healthcare services in Goa transparent, accessible, connected, and future-oriented, ultimately providing better facilities for the general public.

During the meeting, it was also decided that all claims under the Deen Dayal Health Scheme will now be settled entirely through a digital system via the National Health Claims Exchange.

Additionally, funds from the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will be utilized to further strengthen the state’s government hospitals.

According to a government statement, this move represents a significant reform aimed at modernizing Goa’s healthcare system, ensuring that every citizen receives better and timely health services.

A social media post from the National Health Authority highlighted Goa’s potential to become India’s first digital health state.

While addressing the state-level inauguration workshop of the North Goa Model District initiative under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, NHA CEO Sunil Kumar Barnwal emphasized that the next phase of digital health is not about creating technology, but about adopting it.

He urged healthcare institutions to transition from paper-based processes to adopting the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-enabled Health Management Information System, which will facilitate the creation of Ayushman Bharat health account-linked digital health records. This shift will reduce the administrative burden on healthcare workers and enable the implementation of data-driven health services.
