Giribala Singh Denies Allegations in Twisha Sharma Case at High Court

Jabalpur, May 27: Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of the deceased Twisha Sharma, appeared before the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur on Wednesday to defend her anticipatory bail plea. She refuted the allegations made by the Madhya Pradesh police against her.

In a detailed response presented through her lawyer, Mrigendra Singh, Giribala claimed that she fully cooperated with investigators and never attempted to influence the investigation or tamper with evidence. This case has recently been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The defense urged the court to grant anticipatory bail, arguing that custodial interrogation is unnecessary and that her arrest at this stage would be akin to pre-trial punishment.

The defense further informed the High Court that most parts of the family residence were sealed by the police on May 13, eliminating any possibility of destroying or manipulating evidence.

In response, it was noted that police and later CBI officials entered the home without any hindrance, seizing mobile phones, electronic devices, passports, and documents without any objection from the family.

Dismissing allegations related to the leaking of CCTV footage to media organizations, the defense argued that the DVR had already been seized by the police and is currently in official custody.

Regarding allegations of tampering during the initial post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal, the defense attorney stated that there is no evidence linking Giribala to any interference in the medical examination process.

Addressing accusations related to abortion pills, the defense maintained that Twisha Sharma voluntarily took the medication after consulting with doctors. They also claimed she was undergoing psychiatric treatment for anxiety.

Giribala’s lawyers argued that the possibility of suicide cannot be ruled out, referencing the post-mortem report that mentioned hanging, and noted that the CCTV footage is already in police possession.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court was hearing petitions challenging the anticipatory bail granted by the Bhopal District Court following the FIR registered after Twisha Sharma’s death on May 12.
