From MBA Aspirations to Acting Stardom: The Journey of Rohit Roy

Mumbai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Rohit Roy, a well-known name in Indian television and film, initially aspired to pursue an MBA in the United States. However, his plans took a turn when his student visa was rejected. Faced with this setback, he decided to stay in Mumbai and began his career in modeling, which eventually led him to acting. Over the years, he has carved out a unique identity by portraying both heroic and negative roles.

Born on April 5, 1968, in Nagpur, Rohit is the younger brother of actor Ronit Roy. He had a keen interest in academics, graduating with a degree in science, particularly favoring physics. After preparing to move to the U.S. for his MBA, the visa denial altered his life’s trajectory. Although initially disheartened, he later viewed it as a sign of fate and chose to remain in Mumbai.

While in Mumbai, Rohit worked as an assistant director with ad filmmaker Kunal Kapoor. Soon after, modeling offers started pouring in. His big break came when filmmaker Anant Balani noticed him and offered him a role in the film “Jazbaat.” Although the film did not give him the recognition he hoped for, it opened the doors to the acting world.

Rohit’s career took a significant turn with the television show “Swabhimaan.” The story behind this opportunity is quite intriguing. At the time, he was at his girlfriend Mansi Joshi’s house when she received an offer to act in the show. Mansi declined, but Rohit was intrigued and expressed his desire to audition. Initially rejected, he eventually landed a role in the series.

In “Swabhimaan,” Rohit portrayed the character Rishabh Malhotra, which quickly became a household name. The show aired from 1995 to 1997 on Doordarshan National. In interviews, Rohit has stated that while he has had many roles, none have matched the popularity of Rishabh Malhotra. His first scene involved receiving the news of his father’s death, a moment that resonated deeply with him, as he lost his father at a young age.

Following his success on television, Rohit transitioned to films, appearing in notable projects such as “Kaabil,” “Shootout at Lokhandwala,” “Das Kahaniyan,” “Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena,” and “Plan.” His performance in “Shootout at Lokhandwala” garnered particular acclaim. Alongside his film career, he continued to work in television, participating in shows like “Desh Mein Nikla Hoga Chand,” “Kusum,” and “Sanjivani.”

Rohit has not limited himself to acting alone; he has also ventured into directing. He directed the short film “The Rice Plate” featured in Sanjay Gupta’s film “Das Kahaniyan.” Today, Rohit Roy successfully juggles acting, directing, and modeling, showcasing his versatility in the entertainment industry.
