Playback Singer Abhay Jodhpurkar Reflects on Recording His Award-Winning Song

Abhay Jodhpurkar shares insights about recording Nawasachi Gauri Majhi, the song that won him a National Award.

Mumbai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Abhay Jodhpurkar, a renowned playback singer, recently won the Best Male Playback Singer award at the 72nd National Film Awards for his rendition of the Marathi song “Nawasachi Gauri Majhi” from the film “Gharat Ganapati.” Following this significant achievement, he shared an intriguing story about the song’s recording process.

Jodhpurkar revealed that the recording took place over two sessions. During the first session, he felt that the song’s scale was slightly too high for his voice. Reflecting on receiving the award, he stated, “I am still trying to fully grasp this moment. Honestly, it is a very emotional and surprising experience for me. Winning a National Film Award for a song that I feel so connected to is truly special. When I received the award from President Droupadi Murmu, it made the moment even more memorable.”

He recalled pouring many emotions into the song, aiming for it to feel like a celebration of Gauri’s arrival at home rather than just another festive tune. However, he faced challenges during the first recording session. “I felt the song was a bit beyond my vocal range, and I wished it could be sung at a lower scale for a better performance. I was disappointed since I wanted to lower the scale, but the live instruments had already been recorded, making it impossible to adjust,” he explained.

After the initial session, the second recording session allowed him to focus more on expression rather than worrying about hitting the right notes. “I had spent considerable time with the melody, making everything feel more natural and easier. My goal was to avoid any artificiality in my voice and let my emotions come through naturally. Attention to detail was crucial during the recording,” he added.

The 72nd National Film Awards celebrated Indian cinema from 2024, with “Article 370” winning the Best Feature Film award. Yami Gautam was recognized as Best Actress for her role in the same film, while veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty received the Best Actor award for his performance in “Brahmayugam.” Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan was also honored for his work in “Chandu Champion.”
