Mumbai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Asha Parekh’s illustrious film career continues to captivate audiences, with many intriguing stories emerging from her journey. One particularly touching anecdote involves the legendary actress Geeta Bali. In her autobiography, “The Hit Girl,” Parekh reveals that Bali admired her so much that she once expressed a desire to adopt her. This occurred during a time when Parekh was new to the industry, working alongside Shammi Kapoor in her early major films.
Parekh entered the film world at a young age, making her debut as a child artist in Bimal Roy’s film “Maa.” However, her true rise to fame began in 1959 when she starred opposite Shammi Kapoor in “Dil Deke Dekho.” This film proved pivotal for her career and forged a special bond with Kapoor’s family.
During the filming of “Dil Deke Dekho,” Parekh met Geeta Bali, who had already established herself in the industry. In her book, Parekh recounts how warmly Bali treated her. On the first day of shooting in Ranikhet, Bali even did Parekh’s makeup, a significant gesture for the young actress. Bali helped her navigate the shooting environment and understand the nuances of the profession, leading to a cherished friendship.
Their bond grew so close that Bali once expressed her wish to adopt Parekh in front of Shammi Kapoor. This story remains one of the most cherished memories in Parekh’s life. She affectionately referred to Kapoor as “Chacha” and Bali as “Chachi.”
Following her breakout role in “Dil Deke Dekho,” Parekh enjoyed a flourishing career, becoming one of the most beloved actresses of the 1960s and 1970s. Films like “Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai,” “Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hoon,” “Teesri Manzil,” “Pyaar Ka Mausam,” “Kati Patang,” and “Kaarwaan” solidified her status in the hearts of audiences.
