Lucknow, August 4: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to provide free travel for women over the age of 60 on Roadways buses. In the first supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, the state road transport corporation has been allocated ₹100 crore for this initiative.
This promise was part of the BJP’s welfare manifesto. Additionally, the government has allocated ₹1,094.40 crore to the Women Welfare Department, enhancing various schemes like the Indigent Women Pension Scheme, Chief Minister’s Child Service Scheme, and programs related to women’s and child protection. This provision reinforces the government’s commitment to women’s safety, dignity, social protection, and economic empowerment.
The state government has also earmarked an additional ₹1,094.40 crore in the supplementary budget for the Women Welfare Department. To provide social security to women facing financial crises after the death of their husbands, ₹930 crore has been allocated for the Indigent Women Pension Scheme. This will ensure regular financial support for a large number of eligible women in the state.
To ensure the education, nourishment, and overall development of orphaned and children in special circumstances, ₹110 crore has been allocated for the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Child Service Scheme. Furthermore, ₹54.30 crore has been set aside for the Rani Lakshmibai Women and Child Honor Fund, which will strengthen timely assistance and protection for affected women and children.
This decision will provide financial relief to millions of senior women in the state, enabling them to travel for religious, social, familial, and health-related needs. This initiative will enhance their dignity, convenience, and self-reliance. Additionally, ₹10 lakh has been allocated in the supplementary budget for the Chief Minister’s Shakti Samriddhi Scheme aimed at economically empowering women.
The Yogi government continues to prioritize women’s safety, dignity, self-reliance, and social security, translating its welfare promises into action. Through these provisions related to women’s welfare, the government has made it clear that empowering the most vulnerable sections of society is the foundation of good governance and inclusive development.
