Bhopal, August 4: Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has accused the Madhya Pradesh government of reneging on promises made to farmers. He stated that making promises and then breaking them has become a hallmark of the BJP.
Last week, farmers in Madhya Pradesh surrounded the Chief Minister’s residence and staged protests on the streets of Bhopal for two days. During this time, the BJP government assured farmers that 60 percent of the total moong crop would be purchased. They also promised that farmers would not face difficulties in obtaining fertilizers. However, just four days later, the same issues have resurfaced in Madhya Pradesh.
Kamal Nath highlighted that farmers are struggling to find fertilizers, with one woman fainting while waiting in line. The promise of purchasing moong crops is also proving to be false. He emphasized that making false promises to quell farmers’ anger only exacerbates their frustration.
Recalling his tenure, Nath noted that farmers remember the 15 months of his government, during which debts of 2.7 million farmers were waived. He mentioned that on-the-spot compensation was announced for crop losses, and every demand from farmers was taken seriously. In contrast, he claimed that the current BJP government has turned the situation upside down, causing distress to farmers at every level.
He urged the state government to fulfill every promise made to farmers immediately and not force them to resort to protests again.
