Fazilka, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal participated in a march in Fazilka on September 20, aimed at promoting a drug-free Punjab. He declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed to eradicating addiction to foster a developed Punjab. He stressed that this initiative should not be viewed through a political lens.
Speaking to reporters, Meghwal stated, “Today’s march is against drugs. We stand here at the memorial for martyrs, paying tribute to them while meeting families devastated by addiction. Their pain is palpable.” He highlighted that discussions with these families revealed how deeply entrenched the drug problem is within society. “They all requested that this issue must be addressed,” he added.
Meghwal continued, “This journey towards a drug-free Punjab is crucial for our development. We can only achieve a prosperous Punjab if we remain healthy and free from addiction. This initiative is about moving Punjab forward, and some may see it politically, but it carries a message of hope for a drug-free and developed Punjab.”
Reflecting on the struggles faced by families affected by addiction, he shared a poignant story: “There are families where the sole breadwinner, a son, has died due to drugs, leaving behind three daughters. The pain is deep and serious. Listening to their stories makes it clear that the measures implemented by the Chief Minister have not been effective in combating addiction; rather, they seem to have exacerbated the issue. If someone reports drug activity to the police, they often face repercussions instead of support.”
He criticized the Punjab government’s system, alleging that it promotes drug use rather than eliminating it. “Those who inform the police about drug-related activities often find themselves targeted instead,” he concluded.
