Four Brokers Arrested at KGMUs Lari Cardiology Hospital

Lucknow, March 17: Four brokers were arrested by the Wazirganj police during a raid at the Lari Cardiology Hospital of King George Medical University (KGMU). Following complaints about the brokers’ activities, police registered a case against them and initiated further action.

According to the Wazirganj police, a team was formed to investigate the complaints regarding brokers operating within the hospital. On Monday, Sub-Inspector Pradeep Nagar and his team were on patrol when they noticed a dispute near the hospital’s OPD involving individuals arguing with patients’ relatives over medication purchases.

Despite attempts to calm them down, the individuals—Mustaqeem Khan (25), Mohammad Afzal (22), Shahzahan (20), and Shaqib (19)—became aggressive and started to fight. Observing the disturbance, the police arrested them on the spot. All four suspects are residents of the Thakurganj area. A case has been registered against them, and legal proceedings are underway.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they misled patients visiting Lari Hospital, directing them to private hospitals in exchange for commissions from the operators. They also pressured relatives to purchase medications from private pharmacies. The police are currently investigating the suspects’ network in detail.

This is not the first incident of its kind at KGMU. Previous actions have been taken against brokers involved in the sale of unauthorized medications. Despite these efforts, broker networks remain active, often targeting vulnerable and impoverished individuals. These brokers blend in with the general public, monitoring the activities of patients and their families, particularly those who are distressed and unaware of their tactics.
