New Delhi, June 23: India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval expressed on Tuesday that India welcomes the memorandum agreement between Iran and the United States, viewing this development with optimism. He stated that India hopes this agreement will contribute positively to regional and global stability.
During the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors meeting, NSA Doval remarked, “India welcomes the memorandum agreement between the US and Iran. We are hopeful that it will be effective. This will aid in energy security and is a significant development for the homeless.”
He further noted that this agreement would “alleviate supply chain disruptions,” addressing several deficiencies in the fields of fertilizers and chemicals.
NSA Doval emphasized, “The freedom of navigation granted to countries in this region and beyond may significantly enhance our economic prosperity. Friends, we must be aware of new security threats and challenges.”
On June 17, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian electronically signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending hostilities. The agreement includes a provision to extend the ceasefire for 60 days to negotiate the final terms of the deal.
This agreement has effectively ended nearly four months of conflict between the US and Iran, allowing 60 days for discussions on Tehran’s nuclear program and regional security issues.
Previously, India welcomed the MoU aimed at ending hostilities between the US and Iran, stabilizing the region, and resuming trade.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that continuous dialogue is the only path to achieving lasting peace in West Asia, ensuring unhindered navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and facilitating global trade flow.
The ministry also reiterated India’s advocacy for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy, which are essential for swiftly resolving ongoing conflicts.
