New Delhi, April 9: The Delhi Police arrested the son of the founder of the famous restaurant chain ‘Khan Chacha’ on Wednesday in connection with a cybercrime case. This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the national capital.
The accused, Mohammad Javed, is alleged to have allowed fraudsters to use his bank account to transfer money obtained through cyber scams.
Alongside him, Mohammad Saleem, a director at Khan Chacha, was also detained. He is accused of permitting cybercriminals to use his account as a “mule account,” facilitating the processing of funds from digital frauds.
During the raid, police recovered two mobile phones and two SIM cards from the suspects.
In their interrogation, Javed and Saleem admitted that they opened the bank account for their legitimate restaurant and catering business. However, due to financial difficulties, they allowed outsiders to use it for a 2 to 3 percent commission.
The suspects revealed a suspicious network, initially contacted by Harvinder Kohli, who introduced them to Naseem and later to Sandeep Dwivedi.
After sharing their bank account details, significant transactions occurred, with approximately 5.4 million rupees deposited from various fraud cases and subsequently transferred to other accounts.
Authorities noted that deleted suspicious chats indicate a larger conspiracy. The seized mobile devices and bank account information have been sent to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center for nationwide investigation.
The police are now searching for Kohli, Naseem, and Dwivedi, with an in-depth investigation into their roles underway.
Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner Sachin Sharma issued a stern warning to the public, stating, “Do not share your bank account information, ATM card, OTP, or internet banking details with any unknown person for commission or benefits. Such accounts are used by cybercriminals to launder scam money, making account holders legally accountable.”
This case has also impacted the reputation of the renowned Khan Chacha restaurant chain, which began in 1972 and has since expanded to Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Known for its kebabs and culinary heritage, this brand is now embroiled in a high-profile cybercrime case, causing a stir in the food industry and among the general public.
