Food Poisoning Strikes 12 in Gopalganj After Consuming Traditional Dish

Gopalganj, July 2: A food poisoning incident has emerged in Gopalganj district, Bihar, affecting 12 individuals, including 10 children from the same family. Their health deteriorated after consuming the traditional dish ‘Phensa’. Initially, they were admitted to the Baikunthpur Community Health Center and later referred to the Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to doctors, all patients are now out of danger and showing signs of improvement. This incident occurred in the village of Krutpura, under the Baikunthpur police jurisdiction.

Reports indicate that Anil Sahni, a resident of the village, celebrated the birth of a calf by preparing ‘Phensa’ from fresh milk and sharing it with neighboring families. On Wednesday night, the children and other family members consumed the dish. Shortly after, they began experiencing vomiting and diarrhea, causing panic within the family.

The affected individuals include Priya Kumari, Simran Kumari, Priyanshu Kumari, Rishabh Kumar, Abhiraj Kumar, Monalisa Kumari, Hrithik Kumar, Atul Kumar, Manisha Devi, and Rajnati Devi. Family members rushed them to the Baikunthpur Community Health Center, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring them to the Sadar Hospital due to their serious condition.

Under the care of Dr. Pankaj Kumar at Sadar Hospital, all patients are receiving treatment. On Thursday, the doctor reported that timely medical intervention has led to continuous improvement in their conditions. He urged the public to avoid consuming stale food or dairy products made from milk obtained immediately after a calf’s birth, especially during the rainy and humid season.

Doctors confirmed that the consumption of ‘Phensa’ made from this milk was the cause of the food poisoning. Currently, all patients are under medical supervision.
