Beijing, June 30: The first meeting of the China-European Union Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism took place on June 29 in Brussels. According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič issued a joint statement following the meeting.
As major trading partners, China and the EU agreed that the primary goal of this consultation mechanism is to strengthen ministerial-level dialogue on trade and investment policies. This aims to stabilize and balance bilateral relations.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of addressing challenges affecting bilateral economic and trade relations. They agreed on the need to seek practical solutions. The initial framework of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism includes four working modules: trade and investment balance, export controls, intellectual property rights, and World Trade Organization (WTO) reforms.
Wang Wentao and Commissioner Šefčovič’s authorized officials continued discussions on these four modules and agreed to hold another ministerial meeting in the autumn of 2026.
