New Delhi, July 23: In a strong condemnation of the recent brutal actions against peaceful student protesters in Delhi, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi led a group of MPs to Gandhi Smriti on Thursday evening. They paid heartfelt tributes to students who lost their lives due to the mental stress caused by the NEET paper leak.
Earlier, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, and NCP leader Supriya Sule, along with several MPs from the INDIA alliance, gathered at Rahul Gandhi’s residence. Initially, they intended to march to India Gate, but were stopped by police and local authorities, leading them to Gandhi Smriti on 30 January Road instead.
During the event, Rahul Gandhi expressed his support for the students, stating that the Modi government is systematically killing democracy in the country. He emphasized that innocent students raising their voices for their rights are being subjected to violence on the streets, a situation that the opposition will not tolerate. He firmly declared, “No one can stop us from standing with the students of India.”
The opposition leader directly demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from his position and publicly apologize to the students. Rahul Gandhi stressed the importance of the opposition standing with the youth of the nation as they fight for justice on the streets. He reiterated that the students of India are not alone; the entire opposition stands with them and their demands.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi remarked that opposition MPs came to convey a message to the government: that Mahatma Gandhi once led movements alongside farmers and the poor in this very country. Yet today, the Modi government is beating children simply for demanding their rights. She noted that Mahatma Gandhi and many others sacrificed their lives for freedom and democracy, which is now being dismantled in the same country.
