Jehanabad, May 22: In a significant development in the Deepak Kumar murder investigation, a police encounter occurred late Thursday night involving one of the suspects. The incident took place near Dhuriyari village during a weapon recovery operation, where the suspect allegedly opened fire on the police. In response, the police returned fire in self-defense.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Aparajit Lohan reported that a murder case was registered at the Bhelawar police station on May 19. The suspect, identified as Ravan, was arrested on May 21. During interrogation, he revealed that he had hidden the weapon used in the crime near a canal in the Ghhosi police station area.
The police took him to the location to recover the weapon, but the suspect misled them multiple times. Upon rigorous questioning, he suddenly fired at the police team after retrieving the weapon hidden in the bushes.
SP Lohan confirmed that a bullet struck the police vehicle during the exchange. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) fired back in self-defense, resulting in Ravan sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. He was initially taken to Ghhosi for first aid and later referred to the sadar hospital for further treatment.
In a previous statement to reporters, SP Lohan mentioned that on May 19, the police received information about an individual being shot within the jurisdiction of the Bhelawar police station. Following the family’s request, the police transported the body for a post-mortem examination. However, the doctors delayed the procedure for about 7-8 hours, citing various reasons, which resulted in the body deteriorating significantly.
