FIR against teacher for beating student in Rajsamand

Udaipur : Though corporal punishment is  strictly prohibited in schools, yet such incidents keep happening. In a similar case, an FIR has been lodged against a teacher who allegedly kicked and thrashed a 12-year old girl student of the government senior secondary school in Devgarh block of Rajsamand district.

According to sources, a  class 6th student Reena Mali was asked to get out of the class by teacher Kamla Shankar Paneri (53) when he saw her talking while he was explaining a chapter. Later the teacher went out and reportedly thrashed the girl with a ‘neem stick’ which hurt her leg fingers. The matter was informed to the police which arranged for a medical examination of the girl. ” The incident took place on monday and on the report from the girl’s father, we have taken a case. The child has sustained minor bruises on her feet and there are no visible injuries or any marks elsewhere on her body. I have quizzed some teachers and also spoken to some of the students to find what exactly happened” Mangilal, the investigating officer from Devgarh police station said.

The cop said he would go to the school again on wednesday and interrogate more persons. Though police said there had been no previous complaint against the teacher, however,sources claim that Paneri had thrashed two boys from ninth class namely Vishnu  Gurjar and Pavan Salvi in the past and later both had quit the school.
