New Delhi, March 5: Finland’s President Alexander Stub has urged the world to adopt more of India’s values, emphasizing the country’s respect for the sovereignty of others and its pragmatic approach. He shared these thoughts during a joint press briefing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Stub praised PM Modi’s diplomatic skills, stating, “India is one of the largest and most influential countries in the world and the largest democracy. As we have seen, you are now a key strategic partner for Europe. You are one of the fastest-growing economies globally, which we can witness every day.”
He commended India’s foreign policy, noting, “The strength of your foreign policy lies in your clarity. You have always grounded it in a practical and realistic perspective. You have shown the world how crucial it is to maintain strategic vigilance and protect autonomy while also supporting multilateralism and global cooperation. Personally, I believe the world should become a little more Indian.”
Highlighting India’s growing role in a changing world, Stub remarked, “The world is evolving, and we are undergoing a transformation in the global order. India, along with its friends in the Global South, will determine the direction of this order. Today, we discussed security issues in this region, including defense matters and conflicts in West Asia and Ukraine. We agreed that ending war is in everyone’s interest. Sustainable peace can only be achieved by respecting the principles of the United Nations.”
Stub emphasized the necessity of a seat for India in the United Nations Security Council. He also discussed the relationship between India and the EU, asserting that this strategic partnership is essential. “A good start is underway. I am accompanied by 20 Finnish companies working in fields ranging from technology to quantum, satellites, networks, food, and green technology.”
