Paris, August 15: Ferran Torres, the forward who scored the only goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final for Spain, has officially joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He has signed a contract with the French club that extends until 2031 and will wear the jersey number 9.
Torres netted the winning goal against Argentina in the World Cup final, marking a significant achievement after his successful stint with FC Barcelona.
Born on February 29, 2000, in Foios, Spain, Torres began playing football through futsal before joining the Valencia academy at the age of seven. He made his La Liga debut in December 2017 against Eibar, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to play in the league.
During his three seasons with Valencia, Torres played 97 matches and won the Copa del Rey in 2019. He also became the youngest player in the club’s history to play 50 La Liga matches and the first player born in the 21st century to score in the Champions League for the Spanish club.
In 2020, Torres moved to Manchester City, where he played under Pep Guardiola. He featured in 43 matches, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists. During his time in England, he won the Premier League and the League Cup, and was part of the City team that reached the Champions League final in 2021. He then joined Barcelona for the 2021/22 season, becoming a key part of their attack.
At Barcelona, Torres played 207 matches, netting 65 goals and helping the club secure three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups. He also scored in the 2025 Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, leading Barcelona to victory in extra time.
On the international stage, Torres has represented Spain in 65 matches. He made his senior debut under Luis Enrique in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020 after previously representing the country at youth levels.
He participated in Euro 2020 and the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, contributing to Spain’s victories in the 2023 Nations League and the UEFA European Championship 2024.
Torres’s most significant international moment came when Spain won the FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America. He scored the only goal in extra time against Argentina, securing Spain’s second World Cup title. He was named Player of the Match in the final.
