Darwin, August 15: Bangladesh has strengthened its position in the ongoing Test match against Australia in Darwin. They have established a substantial lead of 228 runs based on their first innings performance.
Bangladesh began the third day of play at 349 runs for the loss of six wickets. Mehdi Hasan Miraz, batting at number seven, contributed significantly with the lower order, pushing the team’s score to 426. Miraz was dismissed for 65 runs off 154 balls, marking his exit as the ninth wicket. Earlier, opener Tanzid Hasan scored 101 runs, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added 84 runs. This was Tanzid’s first century in just his second Test match, making him the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century in Australia.
With a total of 426 runs, Bangladesh has taken a commanding lead of 228 runs, which could prove decisive.
For Australia, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was the standout performer, claiming six wickets. Mitchell Starc took two wickets, while captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon each secured one.
Australia faced an early setback in their second innings. Opener Jake Weatherald failed again, bowled out for a duck by Hasan Mahmud. At the time of writing, Australia had scored 36 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10 overs of their second innings. Travis Head is at the crease with 17 runs, while Marnus Labuschagne has contributed 14 runs.
Australia’s first innings concluded at a mere 198 runs, with Steve Smith top-scoring at 71 runs. Hasan Mahmud took six wickets for Bangladesh, while Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain each claimed two wickets.
