New Delhi, August 15: On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort for the 13th consecutive time. During his speech, he highlighted India’s upcoming hosting of the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the aspirations for the 2036 Olympics. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya shared a video of the Prime Minister’s remarks on his social media platform, X.
Mandaviya emphasized, “We are moving forward as a strong contender for the 2036 Olympics, and India will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030.” In the video shared by the Sports Minister, PM Modi praised India’s continuous success in sports.
He stated, “India is making its mark in the world of sports. Our national anthem resonates on the podium, and the tricolor waves proudly. The TOPS scheme has achieved remarkable success. India is excelling in various sports initiatives, including the Khelo India Games, University Games, Winter Games, Beach Games, sports infrastructure, coaching, sports medicine, and nutrition.”
In another tweet, Mandaviya reiterated PM Modi’s call for India to secure a place in more Olympic sports. The Prime Minister urged for inclusion in events where India currently does not participate, saying, “A vast opportunity is opening up for the youth. The number of medals for India is steadily increasing. We are progressing as a strong contender for the 2036 Olympics. India will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030. There are 40 types of sports in the Olympics, with around 325 to 350 competitions, and we are not part of two-thirds of them. We do not qualify.”
PM Modi further encouraged the youth, stating, “We are bidding to host the 2036 Olympics. I urge you to focus on the sports in which we do not qualify. We want to launch a talent search campaign. This initiative will scout for talent among children aged 5 to 15 in villages, towns, and schools. Identified talents will receive training to develop into the country’s top athletes.”
