Galle, August 15: The first Test match of a two-match series between India and Sri Lanka is currently underway in Galle. This match marks a significant milestone as it is India’s 600th Test. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat first.
Captain Gill expressed his thoughts after winning the toss, stating, “We will bat first. The wicket looks good, and the weather is also favorable. We hope to have a great day of cricket. We have retained the same playing eleven that competed in the last match. Our squad includes five bowlers: two fast bowlers and three spinners. This match is special for us as it coincides with our Independence Day and marks our 600th Test match. Leading the country is always special, and this historic occasion makes it even more significant.”
Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva commented, “The pitch looks good. I was also considering batting first. It is quite dry. Nishan Madushka has replaced Pathum Nissanka, and Niroshan Dickwella will take on the wicketkeeping duties. Keshara will make his debut. Our team consists of two fast bowlers, two spinners, and two all-rounders, including myself and Sonal Dinuja. This is the 50th Test match at Galle, and being part of it is special. It is an iconic ground, and I am very happy to play in this match.”
