
New Delhi, August 15: The nation is celebrating its 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm across all segments of society. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and former cricket legends have conveyed their warm wishes to the citizens on this special occasion.
The BCCI took to X to share, “Wishing every Indian a very Happy Independence Day. Jai Hind.”
Currently, the Indian cricket team is on a tour of Sri Lanka, where they began a Test series against the hosts in Galle on Saturday. Ahead of the match, captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir hoisted the national flag in Galle to mark Independence Day.
Jay Shah, ICC President and former BCCI Secretary, expressed on X, “The true strength of a nation lies not just in its victories but in the values that unite its people. Wishing everyone pride and a Happy Independence Day.”
Gautam Gambhir shared, “Their sacrifice. Our freedom. Our responsibility. India, Jai Hind.”
Sachin Tendulkar posted a picture with the tricolor on X, wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day.
VVS Laxman, Director of Cricket of Excellence at BCCI and former batting great, wrote on X, “Happy Independence Day. Let us celebrate the spirit of freedom, honor the sacrifices of those who granted us independence, and continue to contribute to a stronger, more united, and progressive India. Jai Hind.”
Former captain and legendary spinner Anil Kumble also sent his wishes, stating, “Happy Independence Day, Jai Hind.”
Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared a picture of his father on X, extending Independence Day greetings to fellow citizens.
Another former cricketer posted a tribute to the nation’s soldiers, stating, “Our identity is woven in the colors of the tricolor. 80 years of freedom, countless sacrifices. Heartfelt wishes for August 15, 2026.”
