
New Delhi, August 15: Badminton is rapidly gaining popularity in India. Indian badminton players have made their mark on the global stage with impressive performances and achievements. Among the prominent names emerging in this sport is Lakshya Sen, who represents the country in singles.
Lakshya Sen was born on August 16, 2001, in Almora, Uttarakhand. He hails from a family with a rich badminton legacy, being the third generation in the sport. To pursue a better career in badminton, Lakshya moved to Bengaluru at the age of 10, where he trained under Vimal Kumar. He has also been mentored by the legendary Prakash Padukone.
In 2014, he won the Swiss Junior International. By February 2017, he became the number one junior singles player in the BWF World Junior Rankings. Lakshya clinched the title at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships, defeating the top-seeded world junior number one Kunlavut Vitidsarn with scores of 21-19, 21-18. He also secured a gold medal in the mixed team event at the 2018 Youth Olympics.
Lakshya continued his impressive performance at the senior level. He won a bronze medal in singles at the 2021 World Championships, a gold medal with the men’s team at the 2022 Thomas Cup, and a bronze medal with the men’s team at the 2026 Thomas Cup. He achieved a gold medal in men’s singles and a silver medal in the mixed team event at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham in 2022. Additionally, he has a silver medal from the 2022 Asian Games and a bronze medal from the Asia Mixed Team Championships.
On November 30, 2022, Lakshya was honored with the Arjuna Award.
At just 25 years old, Lakshya Sen finished fourth in singles at the Paris Olympics. Given his dedication and hard work in the sport, there are high hopes for him to secure an Olympic medal in badminton.
