Fadnavis Criticizes Rahul Gandhis Understanding of Democracy

Mumbai, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a sharp critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a recent media interaction in Mumbai. He labeled Gandhi’s perspective as “chaotic” and accused him of attempting to erode public trust in constitutional institutions to mask his party’s electoral failures.

Fadnavis dismissed Gandhi’s recent criticisms of regional parties, including Shiv Sena, NCP, and TMC, as unfounded. He stated, “Rahul Gandhi refuses to acknowledge that the people of India have rejected his leadership. His issue is straightforward: he is treating a head injury with a bandage on his knee. The day he understands what the citizens truly desire and why they stand firmly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, perhaps his streak of electoral defeats will come to an end.”

The Chief Minister further accused Gandhi of promoting a dangerous narrative that weakens democratic institutions. “He is trying to discredit the institutions established by the Indian Constitution to diminish public confidence in them. When trust in these institutions erodes, faith in democracy falters, and ultimately, belief in the Constitution wanes,” Fadnavis remarked.

These comments followed Gandhi’s criticism of the Election Commission on the social media platform X. Gandhi had accused the Commission of aiding forces that undermine the electoral mandate, specifically referencing its decision to freeze the TMC’s name and symbol.

Gandhi stated, “First Shiv Sena, then NCP, and now TMC. There is a consistent pattern: the BJP and the Election Commission collaborate to dismantle a party and seize its symbol. If an entire party can be stolen, it is no surprise that millions of Indian votes can also be taken away. Vote theft, government theft, and now party theft have become symbols of our democratic decline.”

He emphasized that the Election Commission’s constitutional duty is to protect the mandate, but instead, it appears to support forces that overturn the people’s decisions. “This struggle is not just Mamata Banerjee‘s; it is the fight of every political party and voter who desires free and fair elections,” he concluded.
