Explosion in Parwan, Afghanistan Claims Young Life and Injures Three

Kabul, May 6: A tragic explosion in Parwan province, Afghanistan, has resulted in the death of a young man and injuries to three others. This incident occurred while the victim attempted to tamper with an unexploded bomb, according to a statement from Taliban police reported by local media.

The explosion took place on Tuesday in the Bagram district when a 20-year-old man tried to open the unexploded device. Taliban officials confirmed that the young man died instantly at the scene. Two girls and one boy were injured and have been admitted to a hospital in Parwan, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Unexploded ordnance and landmines have become a significant problem in Afghanistan due to years of ongoing conflict. Civilians, particularly children, frequently fall victim to these hidden dangers.

According to the Taliban’s disaster management department, at least 96 people have died and 328 have been injured in such explosions over the past year. Between April 2025 and March 2026, there were 225 reported incidents, affecting a total of 474 individuals, including 321 children and 153 adults.

Unexploded munitions pose a greater threat, especially in rural and conflict-affected areas, as they remain buried and out of sight. Provinces like Herat, Kunar, Farah, Nangarhar, and Kandahar have reported a higher number of such incidents.

In February, a similar explosion occurred inside a house in Farah province, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. This incident took place in the Pushte-Koh district when an unexploded shell detonated after being accidentally struck.

Authorities are urging the public to stay away from any suspicious items and to report them immediately to security agencies.
