Essential Nutritional Foods for TB Patients: Boost Recovery with These Dietary Tips

New Delhi, June 6: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant health issue in the country. During treatment, a balanced and nutritious diet is crucial alongside medication. Health experts emphasize that nutritious food provides essential energy and strength, enhances the body’s ability to fight the disease, and aids in quicker recovery.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM), a TB patient’s body becomes quite weak during treatment. A nutritious diet helps strengthen the body, boosts immunity, and aids in infection prevention. Experts suggest that adopting the right dietary habits alongside medication accelerates recovery and improves treatment outcomes.

A nutritious diet not only strengthens TB patients physically but also mentally. It is important to include grains, millets, lentils, proteins, fruits, and vegetables (especially seasonal ones) in their meals.

Grains and Millets: Corn, rice, sorghum, pearl millet, and wheat are primary sources of energy. They provide sustained energy to the body.

Lentils and Proteins: Peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, and other legumes are rich in protein. They help strengthen muscles and assist in body repair.

Fruits and Vegetables: Seasonal fruits and green vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber, playing a vital role in boosting immunity.

Other Essentials: Consuming adequate amounts of cooking oil, ghee, jaggery, milk, and yogurt is also beneficial. Paneer or soy can be included in the diet.

During TB treatment, it is advisable to eat fresh, homemade meals. Avoid fried foods, junk food, and outside meals entirely. Aim for at least three nutritious meals a day, along with healthy snacks in between. Stay hydrated and take medications on time as per the doctor’s advice.
