Madurantakam, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Tamil Nadu police have ramped up security for candidates participating in the Madurantakam Assembly by-election scheduled for October 6. This decision comes in response to protests that have erupted in various areas during the campaign, leading to heated debates and minor scuffles.
As the election date approaches, political parties are intensifying their campaigns. Candidates and their supporters are actively visiting villages to garner votes and rally public support. However, many candidates are facing tough questions and opposition from locals dissatisfied with unresolved community issues. Tensions have flared during door-to-door campaigning and street meetings, resulting in sharp exchanges between candidates and residents.
Incidents of pushing and shoving have occurred, particularly when supporters of candidates clashed. The police are concerned that without adequate security measures during these campaigns, such confrontations could escalate into significant conflicts between local citizens and party workers.

Local citizens are calling for stricter surveillance, especially as the final phase of campaigning may increase the risk of illegal cash distribution. They have urged police and election officials to enhance vehicle checks, particularly on roads connecting villages and entry points into the constituency.
